How Much Money Did I Make From My Publishing My First Book?
It has been over three years since my very first book was published, so I thought it might be a good time to revisit and take stock of where things stand with the paperback.
My little baby is all grown up, but has it paid its way in the world?
It had been a dream of mine to publish a book ever since I was a child. I grew up in a family with not a lot of money so books, alongside music, were my only escape. It was a pre-Internet and pre-cable TV type of existence Down Under, so most of my education of the world came from books.
Books taught me how to desire but I didn’t just desire what I read about. Books also made me want to become a writer.
Flash forward through a few different decades of my life and you would have found 2017 me almost seven years into being a somewhat-known blogger and personality called Fat Gay Vegan.
My blog was the online space where I sprinkled as much of myself as possible onto topics such as the latest tofu products and vegan pizza restaurants. Writing daily online about veganism kept my brain busy but I was still that little kid longing to see my name on a paperback cover.
The day I opened my email account as a chubby, hairy adult pushing middle age to find an invitation to meet with Nourish Books was a wonderful day. I waddled into negotiations with absolutely no understanding of what I was entitled to or what was expected of me.
